A few weeks ago I notice that my computer had slowed down. I thought it was because I had dial-up internet. What hadn’t I paid attention to, was that everything I did took more time, and not just the things I did over the internet. I kept plugging on like nothing was wrong. I guess I thought that somehow the problems would just go away. Looking back, that is exactly what I wanted to happen. I wanted it to just go away.
I am not very good with computers, and it is something I want to deal with as little as possible.
Unfortunately, I need the computer to get so many things accomplished that are important to me, such
as my banking, sending music to radio stations, and answering inquires about my music and the “Come
On In” program. Needless to say, things only got worse. The computer just kept getting slower and
slower.
One evening a friend was at my house and we were looking for something on the computer. She noticed
how slow it was and began investigating. The day of reckoning had come. I had a slew of viruses which
were about to shut down my computer all together. I was at risk of not only losing the computer, but
years worth of files I had collected.
I know! I know! I should have updated my anti-virus program. I should have backed up my files more
often, but I didn’t. Why? Because I was too busy doing other things. Stopping to address maintenance
just got in my way. I wasn’t paying attention to some things that were important, because it wasn’t
pleasant for me to do so. Before I knew it I had accumulated a boat load of problems.
It can be the same in our lives. We muddle along through each day immersed in the business of life. We
avoid those things that make us uncomfortable or are unsure of how to deal with – such as an unhappy
marriage, out of control credit cards, a problem at work or poor health.
Life has a way of getting our attention when we are not doing the things we need to do. God is gracious
to put red flags in our way, but we are often oblivious to them. Just like my ignoring my computer
running slower and slower. I continued on like nothing was happening until I was forced to deal with
a more difficult situation. If I had attended to the warning signs and dealt with the problems earlier, I
would have saved $200.00 in repair fees. That’s how it is in life. The more we ignore the red flags, the
greater the consequences.
Sometimes God is talking loud and clear to us through life’s circumstances, and we just don’t want to
hear what He is saying. How about you, are red flags popping up in your life lately? What are you going
to do about them?
It’s something to think about!
